To improve energy efficiency, the building façade was upgraded at the iconic Citiclub Building (aka CQ Building), in the heart of Melbourne’s CBD. It’s been two years since Magnetite retrofitted the existing windows as part of a wider upgrade which saved energy use by up to 27%. This increased the NABERS ratings from 2 ½ stars up to 4 ½ stars. The project was a pilot study in the city of Melbourne’s 1200 Buildings Programme which won an award for “Best Specific Environmental Initiative” at the World Environmental Day Awards.
Magnetite & MEP Film partnership delivers glazing retrofit solution at ESD event “Reach for the Stars”

ESD Solution hosted a sustainability event in the Citiclub building to highlight its importance as a case study. “Reach for the Stars” was held on 20th February, attracting over 300 professionals, with a who’s who of Melbourne’s leading architects, engineers, property managers, building owners, ESD specialists and builders. Sally Darling, managing director of ESD Solution, hosted the event, their first for 2014. Sally’s event format is designed to educate and inspire specifiers and building owners to achieve sustainable design by choosing the right solutions for their retrofit project. The event included retrofit workshops followed by a discussion panel that debated the challenges and solutions, including finance for retrofit projects.

As part of this event, Magnetite partnered with MEP Films to present various retrofit double glazing solutions for creating building efficiency. With the latest sensor display unit, visitors experienced Magnetite retrofit solutions for both noise and thermal concerns. The unit also demonstrated solutions for thermal insulation that combines the application of both retrofit double glazing and low-e film. The combination delivers fascinating retrofit solutions that can be incorporated into the building façade upgrade to achieve better energy performance.

WERS test results confirm that the combination of Magnetite’s secondary glazing with MEP’s Enerlogic film provides an impressive U- value of 1.8 and Solar Heat Gain Coefficient of 0.2 which is world class. Michael Miller, MEP’s national sales manager loves the combination with Magnetite, saying “It’s an amazing achievement for a retrofit solution.” Magnetite franchisee Rob Campbell was on hand, since he managed the installation at the Citiclub building. “It was a breakthrough for us and we were glad to work with specifiers who view a retrofit in terms of the building envelope.”
